Fire Safety

                3.3 Fire-stop Collars

The main functions of fire-stop collars and fire retardant products are to confine flame, smoke
and poisonous gases formed during a fire to a specific area, in order to delay their spread and
prevent them from affecting other areas for a certain period of time.

Such products should maintain their flame retarding function for at least 30 years. Once the
product is applied, an “Application Plate” will allow easy access to the application details of the
                product.

                3.4 Fire-stop Pipe Clamps

Firestop pipe clamp is the systemic solution used in the fire insulation of flammable pipes
(HDPE, PP and ABS) with diameters from 32 mm to 250 mm. It consist of :

                  • Metal clamp
                  • Strip material placed inside, expanding with heat
                  • Metal fasteners used for mounting the clamp on the wall

During the fire, the strip material in the metal clamp should expand with the heat, and close the
gap created by the inflammable pipe by melting and prevent the passage of flame and smoke
                through the fire barrier.

Thermally expanding mastic should be applied on the gap around the pipe before the clamp is
mounted to prevent the movement of cold smoke which may form when the swollen strip
material reaches a certain temperature and starts a reaction.

Considering the possibility that fire may start on both directions, an application should be made
on both sides of the walls. In floorings, it is sufficient to fireproof the bottom of flooring only.
Where fire-stop is used with filling materials such as mortar or foam, fireproofing can be made
within the confines of the wall or flooring without using metal clamps if external installation is not
                possible due to physical reasons.
